Ian Dury‘s last LP for Polydor was, as usual, full of memorable lyrics, keenly added to a tableau of multi-faceted musical muscle this time provided by a fine, funky young band of musicians he dubbed the Music Students. With 4000 Weeks Holiday, Dury demonstrated, once again, his supremacy as champion of the written word. And you can’t help but marvel at the dexterity of his delivery. Remastered from the original tapes, this version features six bonus tracks, five of them previously unreleased. Originally released in the ominously Orwellian year of 1984, it reflected the massive resurgence of interest in nuclear disarmament. In 1983, for the first time since the 1950s, there had been a huge Campaign for 
Nuclear Disarmament (CND) demo in London… and Ian could be seen sporting the CND logo on the cover. It’s a record full of charm, not least Peter The Painter, which was written at the request of Peter Blake, who had taught Ian Dury at the Royal College of Art. It also contains the best ever example of Brit Noir in song – well, certainly up there alongside Watching The Detectives by Ian s old Stiff label mate, Elvis Costello. The Man With No Face is genuinely menacing: a complex and involving yarn of a drug smuggler, a femme fatale and an appointment with fear”. Among the bonus tracks, the gentle generosity of spirit of the piano-led The Sky’s The Limit, only previously available on the 12 inch release of Very Personal, stands out, as do the two versions of the typically forthright love song I Weighed Myself Up, on the longer of which we ve left the freestyle a cappella at the end.
