Post Description
UB40 performed their first gig in 1979 in their home city of Birmingham. They got their initial break when they were spotted by Chrissie Hynde and invited to support The Pretenders on their upcoming UK tour. Their debut double A side single King/Food For Thought climbed to No.4 in the UK charts in 1980 and their first album Signing Off , released the same year, reached No.2. This concert, filmed at the Sartory-Sale in Cologne in July 1981 for the Rockpalast TV series, followed hot on the heels of the release of their second album Present Arms , which also hit the No.2 spot. The set list is drawn almost exclusively from those two albums and includes all their early hits.
Filmed in 1981, this really shows the creative peak of UB40. If you have a love for their first two albums and don't really care for what followed after, this really is a treat for you! You get a wonderful live set of their first two albums- my personal with favs being 'Tyler', 'Burden Of Shame', and the unbelievably epic 'Madam Medusa' performed as tight as can be. UB40 really did create some of the most beautiful and inspiring reggae and dub music of the early 1980's, and the proof is in the pudding!
If you're after some early performances of UB40, snap up this one now!
