Pop Goes the Country, the half-hour variety country music television series, is a program of the past that has found a new home on RFD-TV. Produced in Nashville,Tennessee, between 1974 and 1982, Pop Goes the Country revisits this great era when the influence of pop music found country music as referenced in the title. Pop Goes the Country became a sensation with stars including Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Crystal Gayle and Anne Murray who had successful crossover hits from the country radio stations to pop radio air waves. The show also embraced the traditional styles of Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Charley Pride, and Mel Tillis.
The series was the most ambitious production undertaken in Nashville syndication history. Ralph Emery acted as the host of the series for the first 6 years followed by Tom T. Hall for the remaining episodes. Ralph brought his usual interview skills and thorough knowledge of the stars and their lives. This series remains one of the most well-done productions to ever come out of Nashville having been cleared in over 140 markets at its peak.
