JOHNNIE RAY--IN CONCERT.
In 1951, American singer Johnnie Ray (1927-1990), partially deaf since his childhood as the result of a accident, recorded ''Cry'' and ''The Little White Cloud That Cried''.
Both songs became world-wide smash hits and Ray's dynamic emotional singing caused a steady steam of hits, including ''Walkin' My Baby Home'' (1952) and ''Such A Night'' (1954).
Johnnie had a good role in Irving Berlin's musical ''There No Business Like Show Business'' (1954) with a.o. his exellent delevery of ''Alexander's Ragtime Band''.
In 1958, during his unforgettable visit to the Nederlands, Johnnie Ray performed in the studio of the AVRO Broadcasting Company in Hilversum.
Backing Johnnie was the versatile Dutch dance orchestra The Skymasters.
The pairing of the singer, his most beloved songs and the big band results in a dvd that's loaded with excitement and impact.
A Bonus Extra shows that in 1982, Mr. 'Cry Guy' again created a lot of magic moments during a concert in Rotterdam where he was accompanied by the prominent Dutch Metropole Orchestra.
