Michael, Steven en Nick zijn drie jonge fabrieksarbeiders uit 
Pennsylvania die opgeroepen worden om in Vietnam te vechten. 
Voor ze gaan trouwt Steven de zwangere Angela, 
en hun huwelijksfeest is gelijk ook het afscheidsfeest van de drie jongens. 
Na een tijdje in de oorlog gevochten te hebben vallen de vrienden in de handen van de Vietcong, 
en worden ze gevangen genomen in een kamp waar ze gedwongen worden om Russisch roulette te spelen tegen elkaar.
