AllMusic Review by James Leonard
Nicely played, nicely recorded, and nicely staid, Davitt Moroney's 1990 recording of Bach's French Suites plus two other keyboard suites is, for want of a better word, nice. But they are not much more than merely nice. Moroney is an excellent harpsichordist with superb technique, crisp articulation, an acute sense of color, and a buoyant sense of rhythm and tempo. But his performances tend to stay on the light side and his interpretations tend to stay close to the surface of the music. If you're looking for fire-breathing virtuosity or emotional depths or spiritual heights, Moroney's performances will disappoint. But if you're looking for sane and serious performances without the intrusion of interpretations, Moroney's interpretations will satisfy. Virgin's digital recordings are a bit distant and a tad reverberant
