Post Description

Part 10 in this excellent modelling series is a double-DVD pack with a running time of 3 hours 50 minutes. Good trackwork is the most important foundation for good running and Norman Solomon is the nation's foremost exponent in the art of making and laying the permanent way. Norman's trackwork, in all scales and gauges, has provided the basis for some of the finest model railways ever made. In conversation with Tony Wright, Norman explains how he achieves such excellent trackwork from basic principles to complex junction configurations. Peco trackwork is probably the world's favourite trackwork and Norman shows how to improve the running and reliability of Peco turnouts by making small but important modifications. He then prepares and lays a junction using Peco track and foam ballast. Copper clad turnouts enable you to form a junction to your own design. Norman shows how to construct a copper clad turnout, including timbering, making the vee and fitting switch rails and the tie bar. Next, we visit Norman's workshop in Wiveliscombe where he designs and constructs an entire junction using C & L chairs and sleepers. This junction then forms the basis for the final section which covers electrical isolation, preparing the track bed and ballasting. This double-DVD pack contains a list of suppliers and a reference plan showing the components of a turnout. Norman's demonstrations are in OO gauge and his advice extends to all scales and gauges from N Gauge to O gauge. It's all the Wisdom of Solomon. Indeed! Contents of the DVD: Peco Turnouts Peco Ballast Laying Peco Track Planning the Junction Preparation and Timbering Diamond Crossing Building the Turnouts Making the Vee Testing The Track Bed Laying and Ballasting Track.
