History Channel - Ice Run Submarine To The Arctic

Documentary that follows a joint expedition of the U.S. Navy and the National Science Foundation 
on a trip to the Arctic Circle aboard the nuclear powered submarine the U.S.S. Hawkbill, 
one of the most sophisticated vessels on earth. The Arctic Ocean presents many hazards because 
of its remoteness, severe weather, glacial ice and the threat of Russian subs with whom post-Cold War 
confrontations still exist. 
The dynamics of life on a submarine are also revealed: the sometimes tenuous interaction of military 
and scientific personnel, the often paralyzing claustrophobic conditions and the rigors of the experimentation 
balanced against the imperative for safety.
