"After being forcibly retired as the chief of police in Paradise, Massachusetts, Jesse Stone is still without a fulltime job (though he vows to one day be reinstated) and continues to find ways to pursue investigations into two separate murders: one involving a friend with whom he had lost contact, and the other is with a robbery and murder suspect whom Jesse has doubts as to his guilt, all the while dealing with tensions between the new Paradise police chief, his ex-wife, and drinking issues."
