Post Description
An Intimate Performance is an early concert from Joan Baez recorded in London at the BBC Television Theatre, June 5, 1965 and released on November 06, 2012 on the Immortal label.
It’s all about the young Joan’s beautiful singing and acoustic guitar playing, captured with great intimacy before an enraptured crowd. The singer is in superb voice, and her repertoire is the one that made her a star at the benchmark Newport Folk Festival and beyond, a mix of Anglo-American balladry, anti-war and anti-racism protest, and Bob Dylan: from ‘Mary Hamilton,’ and ‘Silver Dagger’ to ‘We Shall Overcome’ to ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’ and ‘With God On Our Side.’ Two Portuguese songs and a song partly in French round out Joan Baez’s show. This is at once a beautiful, moving concert and a riveting 1960′s period piece, starring one of the most powerful folk singers of our time.
