Near the end of 2012, WWE champion CM Punk was becoming increasingly desperate to retain his title with each passing week. After barely escaping Hell In A Cell with his championship, the odds seemed stacked against him going into Survivor Series. However, a renegade group of NXT upstarts who would later be known as The Shield made its presence felt during the PPV, allowing CM Punk to gain victory and continue his historic title reign.
