Synopsis
Reclusive horror director Boris Arkadin invites four actors to his mansion in order to star in his latest film. But does he have a horror film in mind or something more sinister? Since his heavily pregnant wife was murdered in 1975 by a cult--a nod to the Sharon Tate murder by Charles Manson?s followers--Arkadin has lived in seclusion. He then decides to make a film about the murders and recruits four actors for an extended audition at his home. The group of actors are constantly monitored by cameras. But is Boris shooting a horror film or a snuff film? Director Bernard Rose--most famous for the horror films CANDYMAN and PAPERHOUSE--skilfully looks at the thin lines that separate voyeurism, horror films, sadism, and actual death. Although this territory has been examined before in MY LITTLE EYE, SNUFF MOVIE succeeds in bringing something fresh to the genre that merges the concepts of fiction and reality.
