South Tyrol and Trentino are Italy's northern provinces. The journey from a bird's eye view leads from Val Venosta in the North of Bolzano across the Dolomites in the East. Most farms have been built high up in the mountains - on scenic locations that can only be reached by road for a few years. Surgery nurse Astrid Jung likes to spend her hollidays on the Tu?rkhof farm - to work as a farmhand. And veterinarian Marion Tartarotti takes care of the animals that cannot be transported down to the valley. The Hochjoch glacier is the work place of a glaciologist the changes in this world of ice. Further south, the view from the air opens up on the vineyards on Lake Kaltern.
Elena Walch, a trained architect, talked her husband into giving her one of the vineyards of the family winery. Ever since, she has become one of the most successful winemakers of the region. Near Pinzolo Filippo Zibordi is hot on the trails of an animal species that has almost been extinct in the Alpine region: the brown bear. He studies their mating behaviour and makes sure their caves are protected. Lake Garda lies in the South of Pinzolo. It forms a hollow in between 2.000 Meter high mountains. During the nights, the air cools off drastically, thus generating winds that offer the perfect conditions for kite surfers such as Chiara Piccoli.
