The Band was rond 1970 één van de meest invloedrijke bands uit de Verenigde Staten. The Band kan gezien worden als de grondlegger van het genre Americana zoals we dat nu kennen. Hun muziek wordt gekenmerkt door een energieke mix van roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B, country en blues. Niet alleen als begeleidingsband voor Bob Dylan, maar ook op eigen albums was de groep zo veelzijdig en gezaghebbend dat de groep even simpel als allesomvattend The Band gedoopt werd. Ook nadat The Band in de originele bezetting ophield met bestaan bleven de afzonderlijke leden succesvol in de muziek.
Leo Blokhuis stelde The Band Collected samen naar aanleiding van zijn theatertour over The Band.
