Post Description
Responding to the dawn of the disco era, the Isley Brothers cranked out the equivalent of dance mixes with the three rock-funk tunes that lead off The Heat Is On. Each of them clock in at over five minutes, offering ample opportunity to shake your groove thing. The driving, relentless "Fight the Power" addresses the angry politics of the day, albeit with a nonspecific directive to "fight the powers that be"--something that everyone could agree on--while the title track provides some of the deepest funk found on any Isleys album and "Hope You're Feeling Better" gives brother Ernie a chance to step out on guitar. The second half of the album is all smooth soul balladry, with one of Ronald's most beautiful vocal takes on the sensuous soul number "For the Love of You." --Daniel Durchholz
