Spartacus: Gods of the Arena is een prequel van Spartacus: Blood and Sand in de vorm van een miniserie. De serie volgt de gladiatorenschool van Batiatus voordat Spartacus er kwam. De hoofdpersoon is de toenmalige kampioen van Capua Gannicus. Oorspronkelijk waren er geen plannen om deze serie te maken, maar omdat de acteur van Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) kanker kreeg moest het tweede seizoen worden uitgesteld. Om het gat tussen het eerste en het tweede seizoen te vullen werd daarom deze 6-delige prequel gemaakt. De cast bleef verder hetzelfde.
