review : "The bizarre ability to frame sad lyrics with upbeat melodies, creating three dimensional songs that justify the existence of the repeat button on your Cd player."

Thats"s how America"s prestigious "Performing Songwriter" magazine describes the enviable talents of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Eugene Ruffolo, who makes his home in New York City"s Greenwhich Village.

This fall fans will be delighted with the much anticpated followup to his debut album "A Fool For Every Season ", which recieved wide critical acclaim in both the United States and Europe, being hailed as a "veritable jewel of folk pop" by Germany"s "Audio" magazine. With "When We Were Kings", Ruffolo once again astounds the listener with his unique talent of writing songs that are at the same time both deeply personal and universal in scope. And as if singing, playing and writing all the songs were"nt enough, this time around Ruffolo is in the producer"s chair for half of the record, revealing another of his talents, and demonstrating that no one knows the artist like the artist himself. The rest of the Cd is a co-production effort between famed producer Ben Wisch, and Alain Mallet.

Perhaps the first thing one notices upon slipping in the disc is Ruffolo"s unique and compelling voice, described as "utterly intruiging" by "Jam" magazine of Italy. It is a voice formidable enough that Ruffolo has been asked to participate in recordings and live performances with artists as diverse as Garth Brooks, Livingston Taylor, David Wilcox, Spyro Gyra, Run DMC, Tony Bennett, and Artie Traum.

His golden voice has also been featured in films by some of America and Europe"s most famous directors and composers, including George Lucas, Brian DePalma, and Ennio Morricone.

He"s the first prize winner of both the highly competitive Telluride and Merle Fest song writing competitions.

review : Phew... Here we have a great piece of plastic! A CD that has been out since 2001 but I just discovered this treasure of melodic midwestern sweet pop-madness. Beautiful produced uptempo singer songwriter pop is another definition. I don"t care what definition I should use. The only things I care about are two things... The first thing is that all of you gotta get hold of this CD at once, and second... when will there be a new album out with the guy? What shall we compare his music to then? Well, does anyone remember Keven Jordan? That"s were Eugene have parked his car. Keven mixed with the coolness of Marc Cohn and Bebo Norman mixed with a little tiny piece of more uptempo "normal" pop, and also a retrovibde a"la James Taylor... Phew... Get the grip? There are a few to many "softies" on the album, but that"s not a real complaint as they"re also very nice, but I would loved to have one or two more pop-edged tracks like the opening killer "One More Mystery". And what a great voice the guy has! Geehh... Quite weird review I know, but I"m quite stunned actually. Third out "The Only True Adventure" smells Robbie Robertson a long way and "Your Run Away" is such a beautiful tune with a tremendous low-key refrain. The ocean of music will NEVER end. There will only be more and more and more music. And guess what... I"m so happy that it is that way. The biggest kick doin" this review work for you guys is when a CD like this starts to play and the music just kicks me to the ground.
