Raging Slab - Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert
mp3 CBR 320 | 47:04 min | 111 MB

Released in 1993, Raging Slab's Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert proved that southern rock was still alive. Originally formed in 1985 when guitarists Greg Strzempka and Elyse Steinman met in New York City. Raging Slab was born from the pair's love of Lynyrd Skynyrd and good-time southern boogie. After numerous line-up changes, before Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert, the pair enlisted bassist Alec Morton and drummer Paul Sheenan for the recording of the album. After having two records turned down by RCA, Rick Rubin convinced the band to sign for Def American and bought out the remainder of the contract with RCA. The band recruited Pearl Jam and Soundgarden producer Brendon O'Brien and managed to convince Led Zeppelin bassist, John Paul Jones to help with the album, which was finally released in the spring of 1993 to critical acclaim.

?Southern rock is not dead! In fact it's alive and well and living in... Pennsylvania? Well believe it or not, such is the case for Raging Slab, who brought the best of their three-guitar assault to their 1993 Def American release Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert. Diversity is the key here, and besides writing a great set of tunes, singer, guitarist, and leader Greg Strzempka even adds banjo to the album's purest country moment, "So Help Me". The former also features lap steel from Elyse Steinman, whose slide guitar gives that extra kick to most of the album, but especially to the phenomenal "Pearly". "Lynne" is a beautiful ballad with string arrangements courtesy of John Paul Jones, "Lord Have Mercy" is pure gospel, "Laughin' and Cryin'" verges on metal, "Take a Hold" features some memorable three-way guitar harmonizing, and "Anywhere but Here" is simply awesome all-around. With closer "Ain't Ugly None" riding a groove as big as China, this album certainly qualifies as a well-kept secret.
