Kafkara v1 0 5 AnDrOiD
Kafkara is an augmented reality Android app inspired by Franz Kafka's short story "The Metamorphosis". It allows you to create talking avatars from people's faces. The avatars are placed at your location in the real world. Avatars can be created using the phone camera or from Facebook or Twitter profile images.
The app uses vision processing to search for and extract a face from a photo. The photo is then used as a texture to map onto an avatar's face in 3D. There are at present three avatar bodies that can be used. I hope to have more if I can get some more simple low-polygon 3D models (any 3D designers wanting to provide simple models to show their work - please contact me). During face extraction an estimation of the person's mouth is done so when the avatar speaks its messages (using text to speech or a voice recording) we can attempt to move the lips and move the jaw up and down.
At its core Kafkara is a bit of fun - try taking photos of your friends or using images of famous people or even paintings that contain a face! Note: the faces need to be forward looking to work.
Kafkara has been recently released into the Android Market - search for "kafkara" in the android market or use the QR code below. If you would like to help by providing a translation or for any other enquires please contact support AT kafkara DOT com
