French Submarine Plans 18: Perle 1935
La Perle was a large Free French submarine with a crew of sixty.1 She was provided to the Free French by the Admiralty as a replacement for an even larger submarine Surcouf, which had been sunk in mysterious circumstances earlier in the war. La Perle had refitted in New London, Connecticut in mid-1944, and in early July of that year sailed to St. John's, Newfoundland en route to Holy Loch, UK.
