Ronnie Wood - The Ronnie Wood Show On TV 02.03.12
With special guest Kelly Jones
SkyArts1, Broadcast 2nd March 2012
Top artists join Ronnie Wood for impromptu jamming, lively chat and a chance to reminisce
about the wild days of rock'n'roll
Comin' Home: Delaney & Bonnie and Friends
Delaney & Bonnie & Friends featured a who's who of rock musicians
including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman, Leon Russell,
Rita Collidge and Tina Turner. Leon Russell's first solo album featured
the Stones' Mick Jagger on vocals.
It's Too Late: Derek and The Dominos
There's a few different versions of the story of how Derek and
The Dominos got their name. Allegedly, Tony Ashton of Ashton, Gardner and Dyke,
who was playing the same night as Derek and The Dominos' London debut,
simply mispronounced the provisional title 'Eric and The Dynamos' as 'Derek and The Dominos' and
the name stuck.
Cigarettes, Whiskey and Wild, Wild Women: Ronnie Wood
As part of his 1977 appearance in The Muppet Show, Peter Sellers sings this same song.
Jumpin' At The Woodside: Count Basie
The Count Basie Orchestra, founded by Count Basie, have continued recording
since Basie's death in 1984. Their most recent release was in 2008, 70 years
after Jumpin' At The Woodside!
A Thousand Trees: The Stereophonics
None of the singles from Word Gets Around, the album which features A Thousand Trees,
made it past no.20 in the UK charts. The Stereophonics' next album, Performance and Cocktails,
was a massive success, with 3 singles making it into the top 5.
Whadd' Ya Think: Ronnie Wood
Whadd' Ya Think is taken from Ronnie's album Not For Beginners.
Alongside Kelly Jones, the album features many notable collaborators
including Ronnie's daughter Leah and Bob Dylan.
Gimme: Gregory Issacs
Gregory Issacs recorded a reggae cover version of The Stones' track Wild Horses.
Singing The Blues: Guy Mitchell
Two versions of Singing The Blues were in the UK charts at the same time in 1957.
Guy Mitchell's held the No.1 spot for a week and was replaced by Tommy Steel's version,
before Mitchell took the top spot again, making this the only song in chart history to
knock itself off No.1 twice.
Cigarettes and Coffee: Otis Reading
Otis Reading is another artist featured on this show who has covered a
Rolling Stones track, in this case I Can't Get No Satisfaction. Ronnie has
allegedly said that their concert versions of the song were heavily
influenced by Otis' interpretation.
My Babe: Little Walter
My Babe is based on a traditional gospel song 'My Train', which was
reworked without the religious overtones as a blues song for Little Walter.
Waitin' For The Bus: Zz Top
Zz Top guitarist Billy Gibbons has collaborated on Ronnie's recent album I Feel Like Playing
Who Killed Davey Moore?: Bob Dylan
Ronnie, Keith Richards and Bob Dylan played together at the 1985 Live Aid concert in Philadelphia.
During the show Dylan broke a string. Quick-thinking Ronnie stepped
in and handed over his guitar to keep their performance of Blowin' In The Wind going.
Don't Let Me Down: Kelly Jones / Ronnie Wood
Ronnie and Kelly have previously performed The Faces classic song Debris together on stage at the Ambassadors Theatre in London.
Matchbox: Carl Perkins
This song has been covered extensively by the likes of Bob Dylan,
Derek and The Dominos and most famously, The Beatles.
Don't Let Me Down: The Beatles
Don't Let Me Down was originally going to be part of Let It Be,
one of the Beatles most highly regarded albums. Phil Spector, who produced the album,
decided not to include this track.
