...debut album from this Italian band, Broken Wings Lead Arms to The Sun, was an excellent first release, the band's combination of chamber strings (violins, cellos) with some subtle 70's prog/psych elements and the occasional metallic pummel of the Neurosis-esque riffs making for what was at the time a really unique variation of the burgeoning sludge/space/metal wave that was hitting full steam around the middle of the decade. Since that album came out, I've heard a ton of bands follow a similar path, adding strings and/or psychedelic elements to their metallic dirges, but instead of just copying the effective sound of their debut, One Starving Day have come out with a sophomore album that takes out some of the metallic qualities, and adds a LOT of that old-school prog rock sound that they only hinted at before.
