“TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION Hailing from the Red River Valley Texas Hippie Coalition. Purveyors of the underground movement known as Red Dirt Metal, THC s brand of uncompromising rock is as tough as the birthplace that spawned them. As each member of the Texas Hippie Coalition can attest too, there s a price to pay when Nature s beauty reveals itself to the chosen few. Addictions, lies, betrayal, greed and near death experiences have knocked upon their doors more times than the group cares to remember. The formidable glue that s held the Hippies together, through thick and thin, has been the Godfather of Red Dirt Metal himself Big Dad Rich.

The imposing vocalist handpicked an extraordinary group of against-the-grain musicians to spearhead this decibel shattering movement. They include Randy Cooper and Michael (The Machine) Hayes on guitar, John Exall bass, and The Cowboy on drums. Already highly regarded for the intensity of their live shows, THC has further ingrained themselves to its legion of followers around the world with the release of a blistering 10-song, self-titled CD destined to turn the rock world on its ear. Producer extraordinaire, David Prater, personally asked the band to work on their project. His track record speaks for itself. The former Santana drummer was instrumental in producing the ground breaking Dirty Dancing soundtrack. He also helmed the landmark progressive metal album by Dream Theater, Images and Words, containing the rock classic Pull Me Under. Prater also was behind the mixing board for the first two platinum albums by FireHouse, which yielded six Top 20 singles. His mad scientist approach to working with the Texas Hippie Coalition, however, set standards even the multi-platinum producer himself, admits were recording firsts. And the results are nothing short of spectacular.

The album kicks off with the brutal guitar attack of (No Shame) that immediately sets the tone for the rest of the album. The snarling voice of Big Dad Rich is at full throttle when the band launches into its signature song, (Pissed Off and Mad About It). Praters production skills are tested throughout the album, and especially shine on guitar shredding tunes like (Texas Tags), (Drug Dealer) and (Riverbottom.) A not so surprising fact about this recording is the rabid interest the music has garnered from this nation s Armed Forces serving in Iraq. For instance, every morning before a truck supply convoy heads out the gates of the base compound down the dangerous Iraqi highways, they blare THC s (Creepin) on their bullhorns to let the insurgent forces know the Americans are coming. Recently, a military unit deploying out of Ft. Hood for the Middle East adopted the band s emotionally riveting, (Troublesome Times) as their very own. Once every generation, the rules that define rock and roll are tossed aside when a band of epic proportions appears out of nowhere, to bludgeon the public with its unique style of music. As Nirvana was to grunge, the Texas Hippie Coalition is to Red Dirt Metal. The uncompromising attitude of this band was best summed up by Big Dad Rich one day when asked who his musical influences were. He took a deep breath, stared a hole through the stranger and summed up the essence of Red Dirt Metal in a single word LIFE. In Red River Valley lingo, that s Tender Hippie Care.”
